A very rough sketch on “Project Dark”

Pardon the simple drawings from a previous game I worked on (which was long ago)

The idea is to show how the game element works inside this platformer that I’ve worked on.

E.g. Some parts of the levels won’t be solid till light touches it.

Did it at work again. Hah

It’s Cute. It’s from Japan
It’s Megurine Luka or at least it’s her in another form.

Was only playing around with Adobe Illustrator.
Trying to get used to how it works and surprising it’s enjoyable to say the least.
Might even try to use Illustrator works on future game projects.

Just something I did at work.

Title says it all. Kind of went into a medieval kind of mood with this.
Considering that Skyrim is coming out soon.
Just want to see how I could pull off an art piece with Illustrator tools
Done with Adobe Illustrator.

FYP is 80% done, well till internship/industry projects are done, then we shall focus on the other 20%
Though this is my version of the polished version of construct thought unfortunately did not get integrated on time due to “unforeseen” circumstances, which is disappointing, but oh well.

Finally able to get that popping feel for the art direction of the sprites and environment.

Finally having time from doing a draft back in May,  which can be seen as one of previous posts.

Now with colour and additional touches. It’s for a certain someone and I hope this certain someone enjoys her birthday present as much as I have enjoyed doing it. A promise made and completed. ^ ^

Now back to FYP….

A Little Bit more to (Construct!) Art Concept

Okay just to add up to the mechanics of the game, this art here is involved when the random events that occurs when the game is played to deter the gameplay of the player. (From top to bottom: Thief, Tax Collector, Beggar)

(Purpose of random events – Still in concept form)

Thief: Steals money from the player.
Tax Collector: Collects money from the player if player is not careful with his/her savings.
Beggar: Player should be willing to donate a small sum of money to beggar.

More More (Construct!) Concept Art

NPCs (Visual Cue Characters)
Prince (Main Character)

Given the game play size is 800 X 600 pixels, the sprites here in this case is scaled to
32 X 64 figures that looks “semi realistic” to make sprites fit into the environment. the art direction for the sprites initially was to make them look like toys to give a similar look to the background in terms of art direction.
Now the plan for a polished version of the game is to make NPC characters  appear like  jack-in-the-box toys while the prince is given a puppet look  which shall be done soon and uploaded so stay tuned.

This is the background for the prototype of the game, the main game play screen that they will see when they start the game. The castle seen here is the objective of the game but for this prototype, I thought i give myself an idea on how the final art piece will look like. The art direction is towards a cartoon like feel and gives a sort of popping art style, for this case i wanted the art pieces e.g. the castle, clouds to be a 2-D but it pops out from the background (as you can see from the picture where some of the sprites have a separate shadow away from the background)

For the VERY noticeable “Observe” in this picture, it serves the purpose for the player given that at the start of each day, a standard amount of shoppers will appear. They affect the price of the market objects, so they serve as a visual cue to the play. Clicking on the observe button, allows the player to foresee what the market will be like in the next turn.

Art Concept Prototype (Construct!)

Hi All, This is the Art Concept Prototype for a currently ongoing FYP project my team (Rent-a-paladin studies) called Construct!
There are a few parts to explain (at least for this part) that gives a brief idea on what the project is about e.g. game objective

Basically the Game Brief is about Financial Literacy
In this game, a toy prince is given a small town and castle to manage.
In order to claim his rightful place in the royal family, he must prove his abilities to manage a kingdom.
But to do that, he must start small…

GAME OBJECTIVE

Managing finances, and the player is given the task to build up his castles with bricks.
Using the Money earned from Investing in the market or Earning interests in the Bank to build up your castle and WIN!

Basically its a goal based game and the game idea is to make sure the player saves up to win in a sort of discriminate way (without telling the player what to do) by just saving and nothing else to win the game.

This is My VERY rough concept or at least what I imagine the forming of the castle would look like from different views.
Shall make another update on another post for a more polished prototype version for the Art behind Construct!
